Wiki Map Policy

Wiki Map Terms of Use

Rules for contributing content, photo ownership, and maintaining a safe map environment.

Plain-language summary

Wiki Map is a community map. Only upload photos you own or have permission to share. Do not upload photos of private spaces, as the GPS coordinates will make them public. We may remove violating photos or suspend spam accounts.

1. Scope and Acceptance

These Terms of Use ('Terms') govern your access to and participation in Wiki Map, a community-driven geospatial mapping platform operated by WMTAN. This includes the web and mobile interfaces, photo upload workflows, location tagging features, and associated support channels.

By accessing or contributing to Wiki Map, you signify your unreserved agreement to these Terms. They act as a specialized supplement to the baseline WMTAN Master Terms of Use. If you do not agree to these rules, you must not upload content or interact with the community map.

2. Community Contributions and Licensing

Wiki Map relies on user-generated content (UGC). When you upload a photo, its embedded Exchangeable Image File Format (EXIF) metadata—specifically GPS coordinates—is used to place the photo on a public or semi-public map database.

You retain full copyright ownership of the original photos you upload. However, by submitting content, you grant WMTAN a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to host, store, display, reproduce, and distribute the image, its metadata, and associated captions on the Wiki Map platform.

3. Spatial Privacy and Consent

Mapping real-world locations carries significant privacy implications. You must respect the 'spatial privacy' of others.

You are strictly prohibited from uploading photos that reveal the locations of private residences, secure government or military facilities, restricted corporate areas, or recognizable individuals without their explicit, documented consent. Uploading such content constitutes a severe violation of these Terms.

4. Acceptable Use and Map Integrity

The integrity of Wiki Map depends on accurate contributions. You must not intentionally manipulate, spoof, or falsify EXIF GPS data to place markers in incorrect locations or to spam the map.

Furthermore, you must not use automated scraping tools to extract bulk data from the map, nor may you use the platform to facilitate unlawful activities, harassment, stalking, or the distribution of deceptive information.

5. Content Moderation and Takedowns

WMTAN employs a combination of automated scanning and community reporting to moderate Wiki Map. We reserve the absolute right to remove any image, map pin, or caption that we determine, in our sole discretion, violates these Terms or our community standards.

If you believe a photo on Wiki Map infringes upon your copyright or violates your privacy, you may submit a takedown request through our official support channels. We comply with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and analogous international regulations.

6. Child Safety and Zero Tolerance Policy

WMTAN maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) and the exploitation of minors.

Any attempt to upload, share, or map CSAM, or any content that endangers children, will result in immediate and permanent account termination. We will preserve the offending data and proactively report the incident to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), Europol, and relevant local law enforcement agencies.

7. Account Enforcement

We may restrict, suspend, or terminate your access to Wiki Map if you repeatedly violate these Terms, spam the map, infringe on copyrights, or engage in harassing behavior.

In cases of severe violations or legal mandates, WMTAN may preserve your account records and IP logs for compliance with law enforcement investigations.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

Wiki Map is provided on an 'AS IS' and 'AS AVAILABLE' basis. The map interface relies on third-party mapping providers (e.g., Mapbox, Google Maps) and cloud infrastructure. WMTAN does not guarantee the continuous availability of the service, nor do we guarantee the accuracy, safety, or reliability of user-submitted map pins.

You use the map and visit mapped locations entirely at your own risk.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, WMTAN shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of Wiki Map.

This includes, but is not limited to, physical injury, property damage, or legal disputes resulting from visiting a location discovered on the map, or damages arising from inaccuracies in mapped coordinates or user-uploaded content.
