Wiki Map Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy applies specifically to Wiki Map, a community mapping platform operated by WMTAN. It governs the extraction of location data, image hosting, and map moderation processes associated with the service.

This policy supplements the baseline WMTAN Master Privacy Policy. By uploading photos or interacting with the map, you consent to the data practices described herein, particularly concerning the public display of location-based media.

We collect standard account identifiers, such as your email address and display name, to maintain your Wiki Map profile. When you upload a photo, we collect the image file itself and any captions or tags you provide.

Crucially, we automatically extract the embedded EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) metadata from your uploaded photos. This metadata typically includes precise GPS coordinates, altitude, and the date and time the photo was captured.

Wiki Map relies on EXIF data to function. We use the extracted GPS coordinates solely to accurately place your photo on the interactive community map. We also use this data to generate map clusters, density heatmaps, and location-based search results.

We DO NOT track your device's real-time location in the background. Location data is only collected asynchronously at the exact moment you choose to upload a photo to the platform.

Wiki Map is inherently a collaborative, public-facing platform. Photos, captions, and their associated geographical locations placed on the map are visible to the general public.

You must exercise extreme caution regarding spatial privacy. Do not upload photos that unintentionally reveal the exact coordinates of your private residence, children's schools, or other sensitive personal locations.

WMTAN categorically DOES NOT sell your personal data or location history. We do not use your mapped locations for targeted advertising.

We do share necessary data with trusted third-party infrastructure providers to operate the service. This includes cloud storage providers (to host the image files) and mapping service providers (e.g., Mapbox, to render the interactive map tiles). These providers act strictly as data processors under legally binding agreements.

To maintain platform integrity, Wiki Map includes robust reporting mechanisms. We collect moderation records, including reports of inappropriate images, copyright infringement claims, and privacy violations.

WMTAN may review these reports and, when necessary, share relevant data with law enforcement agencies if a user's uploaded content violates severe safety regulations, such as those concerning child exploitation (CSAM).

We retain your uploaded images, associated metadata, and map markers for as long as your account remains active.

If you decide you no longer want a photo on the map, you can manually delete the specific pin. Deleting a pin permanently removes both the image and its associated location data from the active Wiki Map system.

You maintain full control over your data. In accordance with global privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA), you can request a comprehensive export of your Wiki Map data.

You may also initiate a full account deletion. Upon a verified deletion request, your profile, uploaded photos, and all associated map markers will be purged from our production databases within 30 days.
